Accelerate Action: Beyond the Grumbles, Beyond the Gaps
March 4, 2025“Consistency is the key to success”
We have all heard it before, but I am coming to realise that there is a difference between consistently trying and consistently improving.
In the health and fitness area of my life, I consistently try to tick a box, create new habits, and achieve goals without understanding the whole process. However, this gets lost in the busyness of life, and I hardly get it right often. But if I really want to make a change, I need to take my trying to another level.
For me to stop “consistently trying” aimlessly, I have to change my perspective and my desire to improve consistently in this area. I realised I needed to determine how much improvement I wanted to achieve and become strategic. This type of alignment could require help from trained professionals, creating a tailored programme, being more conscious of my choices, and finding a way to chart my progress and hold myself accountable. It also means believing I could move from a causal attemper to a consistent improver. My formula had to become:
consistently trying + strategy = continuous improvement
Similarly, in a world where good intentions drive many efforts, many do-gooders want to move from ‘consistently trying’ to ‘consistently improving’ to create a strategic impact. So, how do I help people improve their impact? The answer is simple: Do good, better.
It is more than having a catchy theory of change or catchphrase; it is about doing good in a way that moves beyond surface-level solutions to utilising a strategy to build consistent steps to genuinely improve the lives in the Caribbean. We face numerous challenges, limited resources, competing priorities, and complex challenges. Therefore, every action must be thoughtful, intentional and impactful.
It is about providing necessary support to do-gooders, assisting with strategic planning and capacity building, helping them measure their impact, and fostering collaboration.
Most importantly, I am reminding myself and other do-gooders to stick to doing good, even when it is messy and unclear, because nothing we do with our whole hearts will ever be small.
Doing good is the goal. Doing it better is the process.
